    Title

    This antique console table originates from Henan province in central China and dates to the early 19th century. Constructed from a single thick plank of walnut mounted on elm legs, it embodies the simplicity and strength of traditional Chinese furniture-making. The natural surface, worn smooth with time, reveals the beauty of the elm grain and carries the marks of long use.

    Console tables of this type were made in various styles across China, their narrow stature making them versatile for domestic interiors. Originally, they would have been used in reception halls or family rooms, often for displaying precious objects or for functional everyday purposes. Today, its proportions make it ideal for use in a hallway or as a statement piece in a modern setting, while retaining the quiet authenticity of early Chinese craftsmanship.

    How do I look after a piece from Indigo?

    How did you become interested in Oriental antiques?

    Marion & Richard spent much of their early lives travelling in India and developed a shared passion for the everyday beauty of Indian architecture and antiques. Tom, their son, and now owner has been travelling to Asia since 3 years of age.

    We work with small family businesses in China & India who share our values. We go straight to supplier warehouses and workshops to check working conditions.
