This substantial 19th-century Indian stone water pot was originally hand carved for the storage of drinking water, traditionally covered with a fitted wooden or metal lid. Shaped from a single block of dense stone, its rounded, generous form and thick walls speak to its original practical purpose, while the beautifully worn surface bears the quiet marks of long use. Encircling carved grooves add understated decoration and rhythm to the form, giving the piece a strong sculptural presence.
Time and use have left areas of old surface damage and wear, visible as softened edges and natural pitting, which only enhance its authenticity and character. Despite this age-related wear, the pot remains structurally sound and highly robust. Today it makes an exceptional planter, offering excellent stability and a timeless, weathered aesthetic suited to both interior and outdoor settings.
