Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India. They were usually made from Teak, rosewood or jackfruit wood. They were used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewellery and cash. Our pieces are mostly from the 19th century & occasionally 18th and early 20th century. This chest has a brass roundel decoration & painted detail on the front. It comes from the Rann of Kutch on the west coast of India
