Large Camphor Trunk on stand - 19thC

This is a fabulously large Camphor Trunk.
Chinese cabinets and Trunks are made with exceptional craftsmanship. The styles on 18th and 19th century pieces are often based on Ming designs that have a beautiful simplicity. They used for storage of silks, bedding and textiles.
Camphorwood was the preferred wood of the wealthy, the smell of camphor discouraged moths and other insects, which is why it was used all around Asia and the east to make cabinets and trunks . This one is
on it's own stand  - 19thC from Shanghai. Height includes the stand.
