Constructed from wood, it has a planked lift-up lid and is raised on tall stile supports above an open slatted base.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe front is decorated with three large stylised lotus flowers surrounded by scrolling foliage, painted in warm tones against a red lacquered ground. The side panels are decorated with flaming motifs, while the dark lacquered frame provides a strong contrast to the original painted decoration.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe large interior provides useful storage, while the raised stand and slatted lower section give the chest an unusually architectural form.
