    Chinese Cabinets & Sideboards

Our eclectic range of antique Chinese cabinets epitomise high quality furniture craftsmanship with and oriental luxury. The majority of our pieces date from the Qing dynasty (1644 - 1912AD).

Cabinets were not used in China until the Song dynasty (960 - 1279AD) and were often made in pairs to be used side by side or to achieve balance within a room. Every cabinet is made with at least one or two shelves and served as a cupboard for clothing.

Traditional Chinese cabinets are separated into four types;  display cabinets, square-cornered cabinets, round-cornered cabinets & shelves.  Antique Chinese cabinets generally are made from elm, walnut, camphor or red elm although pine and poplar were also used. The Chinese market value hard woods such as rosewood, huanghuali, zitan & chicken wing. Antique Chinese cabinets made in these hard woods are not uncommon, however they are highly valued by the Chinese and come at incredibly high prices.
