Jackfruit Wood Brass Bound Box, South India - Circa. 19thC

A3854

Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India. They were usually made from Teak, rosewood or jackfruit wood. They were used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewellery and cash. Our pieces are mostly from the 19th century and occasionally 18th and early 20th century.
