19thC Japanese School. Kabuki scene featuring Lady Tokiwa, the widow of Miramoto Yoshifomo and the Taira warrier M Yoshitomo was killed by Taira Kiyomori and the Lady Tokiwa fled but was forced to return when Kiyomori held her mother hostage. M. Yoshitomo reacts angrily at Lady Tokiwa upon her return, holding a sign in her hand. She raises her hand above her head, clutching her youngest son to her chest under her kimono. Great design from this famous tale, with large colourful figures and fine detail.
Purchased in old black frame that may have some minor imperfections.
